Changes is the fourth album of Nicole Wray. The album features production by Focus, Drumma Boy, Nicole Wray, and Dame Grease. Nicole started recording the album in 2006. Nicole and her brother have wrote many songs on the album. On January 3, 2008 Wray's myspace announced the release of Stand Up. Also, the track has been confirmed to appear on the upcoming studio album. Stand Up reached #1 on the Internet Play sites and #1 on Radio Airplay over the net. In April 2008, Dice Roll which features Young Fell, was released as the first single. Wray has now stated that until her official website launches, all her updates will be posted on her myspace pages.
Nicole Wray Describe The Album
In an interview, Wray told Spotlight Grooves "That an album title has not been decided, but her and Focus are going make people feel the music like on her first album Make It Hot. Wray didn't want to reveal to much information about the album, but she said that she will be taking it back to Mary J. Blige's 411 days. Also in the interview, Wray says the album is, "Malotic and Soulful and we're really going to take it to the streets." (From Spotlight Grooves)
I’ve been in the studio over the years. I put together a mixtape entitled InDepeDance Day Vol. 1 with the Aphilliates, Don Cannon and a couple of other artists. As for the album I’ve been working with Focus, he’s working with Aftermath and Dr. Dre’s album. Also, another up and coming producer out of New York but he’s out here in Atlanta now. Dame Grease, who did a lot of tacks for DMX. Still in the game writing and recording.
We didn’t do the features too big. And it’s not that I don’t want to have features but I’m coming back out and I want everybody to know that Nicole Wray can hold her own. It’s always good to have a little help but I’m one of those artists that’s so overlooked that I don’t want to have to worry about being in anybody’s shadow. I don’t want people to be like “oh she needed such and such to come back’” and that’s not the case. I would love to do something with Lil’ Wayne, we’re trying to work that out. We’re in negotiations about that right now. I would love to get with R.Kelly. I would love to bring Lauryn Hill back. I would love to do something with Mary J. Blige. There’s this girl named Alice Smith that I’d love to get with, she’s out of DC. She’s incredible, I’d love to do something with her. But really, my list is short. I just want to get in the booth and sing.
With this album I can say I won’t be taking any risks. I’ve been gone for a minute and I don’t want to confuse my fans. I’m going to be doing a lot of different things with my voice but for the most part the album is going to be straight up R&B. The sound is much bigger. My voice has matured over the years. I’m also doing a lot of writing of the subject matter so the fans will definitely relate to it. (Nicole Wray quotes)
Describing The Tracks
* Action is a really hot, hot, song. "They call Action, I bring it, you want it". Action will be on the album and may be the next single.
* Boss Bitch is confirmed track on the album. Nicole says "Don't act like the s*** don't stank, Boss Bitch were you at, Don't think it's all about you". Kind of a hard beat song.
* Changes is slow and piano ballad. It's about "Nicole going through Changes like everyone else. It's about finding love and transforming into the person that she was always destined to be." This is an available ringtone.
* Dear Father is a track that Nicole wrote in 2006 and was produced by Seven. Of course its about fathers. "But pacifically talking out my father and how I need him and love. I appreciated everything he done and because of him Nicole is no longer a little girl but a woman now." (Quote)
* Dice Roll is my favorite song said by Nicole and first single coming off the album. It’s about being able to deal with life. It’s a real jazzy record. It’s kind of like one of those songs written for the street but it has a jazz influence. That’s one of my favorites right now. I got a couple joints I did with Focus that I like, some ballads, some up-tempo joints. This will be the next single and it is a ringtone.
* Dream Love is a "fun song and kinda like a hip-hop song but it tore between R&B and Hip-Hop. Dream Love is about making your dreams come true and letting fun and happy into your life."
* Friend is very much like the next level of My Love Is More. For it to be about, "Family and that staying to your my friend to the end, but don't let the world change you or your probably whined up never being my friend again. Nicole is basically saying that your my friend to the end but lets not change." This might be the next single off the album and if the circumstances work out.
* Goin' Goodbye is a like a sad. "I'm staying because I'm being forced to be. I've tried to say goodbye but I couldn't but now I'm finally leaving and saying goodbye. I'm being serious and it's been so much pain."
* He Can Look was a favorite. It's about "A boy being perpendicular to the square like expecting Nicole to do everything. Like Nicole is suppose to cater to his every prayer."
* I Became A Victim is leftover track from the mixtape. It's about Nicole becoming a victim to something that's not even her faught. An experience can bring you far to the edge.
* Keep It Movin' is an inspiring song. "It features Denim and it about going on with life and not letting haters or anyone bring you down, but instead just go shut them down by doing your own thang. You can try to break me down but I will jump right back up and keep movin' because that my show."
* Masquerade is also one of the favorites. It appeared on the InDepenDance Day mixtape. It's about "a girl waking up and not recognizing herself in the mirror. She on the roll, I hang with her and kinda feel sorry for her because she hustling in the streets. And just realizing that it wasn't a dream but a reality."
* My Love Is More is another love track. It's about, "Would you choose you lover or would you choose money to have. It's about not letting money go to your head, and letting that person know that My Love Is More."
* Not Now is malotic track about Nicole and this boy. What's going on is, " this boy got Nicole open, pushing buttons, and basically just shuts Nicole down and anytime Nicole is with him, she basically feels used".
* Sarah is a similiar song to one of her past singles "Can't Get Out of the Game". It's about a girl who loses faith in herself and her friend say that they believe in her. She dropped out of the choir in church and start doing drugs but I saying you know, I believe in you, don't let you self-esteem be broken so easy.
* Stand Up is the buzz single off the album. It's a party track, hip hop track, and lyrically saying, "If your hot and you know it and your not to shy to show it then Stand Up, because it time to feel good about yourself."
* Slow It Down is a slow track. Nicole states that it is "time to slow it down, and do this in slow motion".
* Why is a song that will on the album. Nicole is saying that "I'm his lady, said I'm what he needs". It is available as a ringtone.
